Why putting yourself at risk can be the best thing you've ever done.

I came across this quote quite recently and I must say, I love it!

As I’ve grown up, I’ve realised that striving towards success means not only going that extra mile (waking up earlier, losing out on social events, staying consistent etc) but also doing things that put me at ‘risk’ – and I don’t mean in an illegal sense!

For me ‘risk’ translated to taking a leap of faith and quitting my stable 9-5 income, standing out from the crowd by learning to live more courageously and, inevitably, the risk of failing. Yes, somehow in my ambitious and optimistic stride, I avoided the thought that I might actually fail. I didn’t realise it at the time, but avoiding the possibility of failing kept me stuck and I was playing it safe for a very, very long time. I thought I was being creative, I thought I was being bold, I thought I was taking risks. But something inside me (fear) was keeping me at harbour.

The truth is, if you want to be more than average, you have to do more than average things. I had to learn to fall in love with failing. OK, maybe not fall in love, but learn to accept it. I’ve now managed to see failure and risk taking as an opportunity to learn and progress. I don’t think you can name me a single successful person who hasn’t failed at some point in their life (even some of your childhood heroes have messed up at some point).

What’s keeping you from growing? Go on, take that risk. The world is waiting for your special gift.
